2024 Goat Meat
Every effort is made to breed for quality animals, that can be used in other herds, or retained for use at Little Garden of Eat'n. However, not all animals are destined to be outstanding milkers or herd sires, and experience selling goats as "pets" was heartbreaking (for the animal.) Plus, when there is a heavy buck kid year, there is not always a market for them, regardless of how amazing they are for breeding, and they cant all stay.
The decision was made in 2018 to allow those who werent breeding quality, as well as those who were available when the market was saturated, to live on the farm until it was time to process them. They receive the same care and management as the best bred animal, they contribute to the farm, and the fear of "whatever happened to..." no longer exists.
