about Little Garden of Eat'n
The journey began in 2011 with a vision of a small scale sustainable farm, more for personal use and satisfaction than anything else. But, within a short time of enjoying and benefiting from this new adventure, sharing this cornucopia of good food, and healthy lifestyle became a new goal. The original farm, Little Garden of Eat'n at Hidden Hills Farm, in Tennessee was downsized and relocated to Virginia in 2015, and the name was shortened (no longer located in the hills of TN.) In 2019, Little Garden of Eat'n relocated to Florida, where the goats and people are happy all year round.
In 2017, I added some of the Morgan Horses that were part of the Whitemud Crossing Farm breeding program - most were retired. My long standing love of horses, and the Morgan Horse in particular, was just a fertile breeding ground for me to begin thinking in terms of carrying on what my mother and I began in the '90s. It took 5 years, after her death, for me to be ready, willing and excited about the thought of new generations. And so, in 2020, the plan for structuring a Morgan Horse breeding plan began, with 2021 being the first year of making that public, with the first foals born in 2023.
Then, after years of being asked, I finally decided to put some of the most requested and popular recipes I have prepared over the years into a book, along with some of the "conversations" I've shared about the goats. Little Book of Eats was launched to the public in November 2022.
The goats and chickens are still the "work-horses" of the farm - producing key components that go into sustaining the farm, and allowing me to indulge in horses again. And so, the original structure remains, and the role of people, here, is to support what nature has been able to manage for centuries; like many things, even nature can use a little help. The goal isn't to modify nature, but work within the framework. Instead of using advanced farming methods (or even "old school" ones,) every effort is made to utilize what is already available - and to support that sensitive network.
If we support the land, the land will be here to support us...
